Black cumin oil is a vegetable oil with a specific taste obtained from the velvety-black seeds of black cumin. In cold-pressed form, black cumin oil provides an interesting mixture of unsaturated fatty acids and a host of other active substances. Black cumin oil has been used since ancient times as a natural remedy for numerous ailments and is known as the “Pharaoh’s Gold.” Cold-pressed oil is said to alleviate digestive problems, inhibit inflammation and microbes, and regulate the immune system, among other things.
Among the ingredients are the rare Omega-6 fatty acid, gamma-linolenic acid, and two secondary plant substances, nigellone, and thymoquinone. Nigelone relaxes the muscles, expands the bronchi, and reduces the viscosity of the bronchial secretion. At the same time, thymoquinone, which has an anti-inflammatory effect, acts as an analgesic and reduces oxidative stress caused by free radicals. A black cumin seed extract has been shown to have cardioprotective properties, which help prevent damage associated with heart attacks and boost overall heart health. In addition, it has a carminative effect, which aids digestion and can reduce gas, bloating, and stomach pain.
Multiple studies have shown that black seed oil has anti-asthmatic effects, and depending on the cause of asthma, it has sometimes been more effective than conventional treatment. This also makes it useful for allergy relief for many people.
Due to its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, the oil is used externally for skin and hair care and for particular skin problems such as psoriasis or neurodermatitis.
