Only recently has evening primrose oil become famous for its incredible health benefits. As the most critical pharmacological ingredient, evening primrose contains polyunsaturated fatty acids: alpha-linoleic acid, gamma-linoleic acid, and about 8% saturated fatty acids. A lack of essential fatty acids leads to inflammatory processes on the skin; that’s why it is recommended to take evening primrose for chronic inflammatory processes and diseases, such as psoriasis, various eczemas, and neurodermatitis. It is used orally to treat lowering cholesterol, diabetes, atherosclerotic changes, improving brain functions, and stomach ailments.
It regulates the balance of sex hormones, so it has a special place for ailments characteristic of the female body. For starters, women worldwide take evening primrose oil to treat PMS symptoms naturally because of its essential fatty acid content; it can also help reduce unwanted menopausal symptoms. Taking enough omega-6 fatty acids, such as LA and GLA, has been shown to support overall hormonal function in the body over three to six months.
Evening primrose oil, used cosmetically or topically, generally exhibits soothing and moisturizing properties and is gentle enough for use on sensitive and prematurely aging skin. It is believed to moisturize and improve the elasticity and texture of flaky skin, making it an ideal ingredient for mature skin. When used on the hair, it hydrates and nourishes the scalp to strengthen it and soothe itching, dryness, and inflammation, thus preventing and reducing hair loss.
